Water System
Knowing that after 40 years of use without a thorough cleaning, there was a good chance that the water system wouldn’t be safe for drinking or useable for a shower. The boat has 5 - 40 gallon stainless steel tanks, 4 of which are below the floor in the center section of the boat. These all needed to be pulled from the boat and taken to my friend, Jim’s house, where we sterilized the tanks and test them for leaks. After repairing multiple leaks on several of the tanks, we began the work of replacing all of the hoses in the water system. It quickly became clear that we were going to have a challenge connecting new hoses to the existing tanks and connectors when I realized that they were all metric, and the hoses I was purchasing were SAE. Hoses were either too big or too small. After several Amazon returns, and in some cases, hot water and a lot of muscle, I finally found the right combination of metric to SAE. It was now time to test all of the connections by filling all of the tanks and checking for leaks. Worst case scenario, they all leak and my boat ends up with 140 gals of water under the floor.
